2 die in nursing home fire

Fire at a Niles nursing home has claimed the lives of two men and left two other people injured. Niles police say the blaze began late Wednesday in a third-floor room at the Hampton Plaza Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Sgt. Ron Brandt says the two men, who have not been identified, were removed from the room and taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where they were pronounced dead. Brandt says two other people suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and were being treated at different hospitals Thursday. Their names also have not released, nor did he say if they were residents of the nursing home or staff members.
