Italiano shuts down Kernels

Craig Italiano (5-0) pitched 6 shutout innings, leading the Kane County Cougars to a 2-0 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels before 6,368 Wednesday night at Elfstrom Stadium.

Todd Johnson homered, and Greg Dowling had an RBI double for the Cougars, who have won seven of their last 10.

Italiano, who posted his first quality start of the season, allowed 2 hits, walked two and struck out four. He has not allowed an earned run in his last seven outings, a 36-inning span.
