Juilliard quartet coming to Wayne on Sunday
The village of Wayne's Little Home Church by the Wayside is hoping for another sellout crowd Sunday at its third annual concert fundraiser.
This year the church booked Fratres, a quartet of Juilliard School graduates who bring a fresh perspective to the classical music of world-renowned composers such as Brahms and Strauss.
The limited-seating concert is set for 4 p.m. at the church at 32W128 Army Trail Road, just north of St. Charles. Admission is $30, with proceeds going toward the church music program and a train depot restoration project by the Wayne Historical Preservation Society.
Based in New York City, Fratres includes pianist Steven Beck, violinist Sami Merdinian and cellist Eric Jacobsen. Also in the group is violist Kyle Armbrust, the son of Wayne residents Karen and Dave Armbrust. The quartet has performed at Carnegie Hall and alongside heavyweights such as the National Symphony Orchestra and the Buenos Aires Philharmonic.
"This is supposed to be an outstanding quartet," concert organizer Carol Berger said. "It should be good."
Berger said she hopes to draw on the momentum of last year's fundraiser, which featured the internationally known Corky Siegel Chamber Blues and sold out the roughly 140-seat church.
"We had people standing outside waiting for spots," Berger said.
Dinners with Fratres at the Dunham Woods Riding Club in Wayne also are available for $30 a person. For more information, call Berger at (630) 584-7088.
