Hoffman Estates High School was on lockdown for about two hours today while police investigated a bomb threat, said Lt. Rich Russo of the Hoffman Estates Police Department.

The written threat was found in a girl's bathroom around 10 a.m. today, Russo said.

The school briefly went on lockdown while bomb dogs checked the building,ˆ큐 he said. The school was not evacuated and nothing was found.ˆ큐

The school returned to normal around 12:15 p.m. today.

Hoffman Estates school officials don't believe the threat was serious, according to a statement from Principal Theresa Busch on the school's Web site. Students and teachers were not allowed to leave the school during the lockdown, according to the statement.

Police will now collect evidence and interview student to determine who is responsible for the threat, Russo said.

I hope this person realizes he or she will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, both criminally and civilly,ˆ큐 he said. I'm sure the school will try and recap money spent on this search.ˆ큐

If found, the person will be charged with felonious disorderly conduct, Russo said.
