Authorities: 18 injured in fight at Cook County Jail
Authorities say 11 officers and seven inmates were injured in a fight involving more than 40 inmates in a Cook County Jail yard.
Sheriff's office spokeswoman Penny Mateck says none of the injuries were life-threatening. She says Tuesday's violence began as a gang-related fist fight and grew into a brawl.
Mateck says five inmates were treated on the scene and two went to Stroger (STROH'-jer) Hospital.
She says the officers got minor injuries while trying to break up the fight. Eight were treated at the scene, two went to a hospital at the jail and one went to another hospital.
