One dead, two injured after three-truck crash in Barrington Hills

One driver died and two others were injured Monday in a three-vehicle crash that left a gravel truck on top of a tire delivery truck and shut down Route 68.

Barrington Hills police said the crash happened just before noon at Bateman Road and left the vehicles in a crumpled heap.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the crash caused two fully loaded gravel trucks to roll over, dumping their contents onto the street.

One of the gravel trucks, police said, ended up on the top of the tire delivery truck.

The tire delivery truck driver was extricated and taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where police said he was pronounced dead.

The driver's name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

The two gravel truck drivers were taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police and fire departments from Barrington, East Dundee, Carpentersville and South Barrington assisted.

The crash is under investigation by the Barrington Hills Police Department and Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
