Delnor names new hospital president

A second chance at life can mean many things.

For Tom Wright, it means climbing the corporate ladder at a hospital he has worked at for 22 years.

Delnor-Community Health System's board of directors announced Monday Wright would become president at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, effective July 1.

"I'm very honored and proud to serve in that position and add to the depth of the department," Wright said.

Wright said he would try to build a closer relationship with the medical staff at Delnor. He takes over for Craig Livermore, who will remain as chief executive officer of Delnor-Community Health Systems.

Wright has been chief financial officer and, for the past 12 years, has served as the hospital's chief operating officer.

Wright has seen his share of tragedy in his personal life.

In August 2001, Wright barely survived a break-in at his St. Charles home. He was shot four times by an intruder in an armed robbery attempt, less than 24 hours after the death of his son, Christopher. His wounds required multiple surgeries.

Despite the ordeal, Wright said he hasn't changed much and it doesn't change his appreciation for the position.

"It's something I've aspired to be: a great leader, whether as president or chief operating officer," he said. "I have a community to serve."

One project Wright has helped with is a three-story, 100,000-square-foot addition to Delnor that is set to open in June.

Also, Delnor is in the middle of seeking approval of an open-heart surgery program against other area hospitals' objections.

Wright said he expects a hearing in August.
