Linebrink learned from Maddux
SEATTLE -- In one respect, Scott Linebrink couldn't believe Greg Maddux won his 350th career game Saturday night.
"I'm a little surprised he's playing this year," Linebrink said. "All he talked about last year was how it was going to be his last one."
Maddux and Linebrink were teammates with the San Diego Padres last season for five months, before the latter was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Now pitching relief for the White Sox, Linebrink still is cherishing his brief time with Maddux.
"I really enjoyed it," Linebrink said. "Just the wealth of knowledge he has, it's really amazing. He was always there for everybody, the veterans, the young guys. And it was great just to watch a guy master his craft like that. I didn't know if he'd come back to try to get 350 wins, but baseball is a force in his life."
Back for more: Brian Anderson made his third straight start in center field Sunday, a reward for making a great catch in Friday's game against the Mariners and hitting a 3-run homer Saturday.
Anderson is likely to be back on the bench against the Los Angeles Angels tonight, but he's trying to make the most of his opportunity.
"Even when I'm getting out, I'm able to figure out what I'm doing wrong," said Anderson, who was 0-for-4 Sunday. "That's why it's so good to just go out and play. I'm just trying to do something to help the team."
Manager Ozzie Guillen hasn't been able to give Anderson, Alexei Ramirez and Pablo Ozuna as much playing time as he'd like to, but he's trying.
"It's not easy being a bench player in the American League," Guillen said. "You won't have that much playing time, especially when you're on a veteran team. Especially when it's early in the year."
Message to mom: Many of the White Sox sported pink Sunday as a tribute to Mother's Day and breast cancer awareness.
Manager Ozzie Guillen called his mother in Venezuela, again.
"It's not a happy Mother's Day because I haven't seen my mom on Mother's Day for the past 28 years," Guillen said. "That's something people don't understand or know what kind of job we have. My mom is 60 years old, but that's part of my job and that's how I make my money and I'd rather see my mom every day than just one day."
