Salvation Army dinner
The Salvation Army in St. Charles will have its annual civic and volunteer awards dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Joe K. Anderson Community Center, 1710 S. Seventh Ave. Mayor Don DeWitte will be the guest speaker, highlighting local service programs of 2007 and handing out several awards. Summer sports camps

Rock out at Marmion
Marmion Academy's National Honor Society presents "Battle of the Bands" at 7 p.m. Saturday in the gymnasium, 1000 Butterfield Road, Aurora. Ten local bands will battle for a cash prize. Tickets are $5 at the door. Proceeds benefit the Marmion Scholarship Fund. A raffle will be held for an opportunity to play "Guitar Hero" against an "expert" student. Steel Beam production

Richard Marx in concert
Pop singer Richard Marx is scheduled to perform an acoustic concert featuring Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon May 24 at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. Marx became an international star in the late 1980s with the No. 1 hit "Right Here Waiting for You" and other chart-topping pop songs.
