New library planned for U of C

Renowned architect Helmut Jahn has designed a new library at the University of Chicago that will be partially underground and topped with a glass dome.

The library will be built just west of the existing Joseph Regenstein Library and will have space for 3.5 million volumes. That will allow the university to keep its entire collection on campus.

The university is getting a $25 million gift from U of C graduates Joe and Rika Mansueto. Joe Mansueto is chairman and CEO of Morningstar Incorporated.

The library is expected to open in 2010.
