Judge issues gag order in bartender beating case

A Cook County judge says prosecutors and attorneys representing the Chicago police officer charged in a videotaped beating of a bartender must stop talking about the case.

Judge John Fleming said Monday he is issuing a gag order over concern about the publicity generated by the case -- including the bar surveillance video that's been shown around the world.

Anthony Abbate is accused of beating a female bartender on February 19, 2007. He has pleaded not guilty to 15 felony counts, including aggravated battery and other charges.

The Cook County state's attorney's office says Abbate's next court date is July 23.
