St. Viator crowned in ESCC tennis meet

St. Viator won its first East Suburban Catholic Conference boys tennis meet in more than 20 years Saturday at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights.

The Lions' 32 points in the tournament were second to Benet (34).

But St. Viator (18-1 this season) recorded a conference- high 39 points in dual-meet competition, giving them a combined total of 71 points and the overall crown place.

The Lions took first place at boths Nos. 1 and 2 singles.

Andrew Rice defeated Marian Catholic's Tim Stanis a6-1, 6-0 at No. 1.

At second singles, Taylor Blaney topped Notre Dame's Ronnie Wing 6-4, 7-5.

The Lions' Michael Zielinski and Dean Tanlis were fourth at No. 1 doubles, while teammates Josh Concon and Peter Cote were third at No. 2 doubles.

St. Viator's Kevin Gilmore and Brian Letke took fourth at No. 3 doubles.
