Register for 5k event at Des Plaines Park District

Registration is in progress for the Des Plaines Park District third Annual Chase to the Taste 5K Run-Walk to be held at 8 a.m. June 7, beginning at 762 Pearson St. at Ellinwood St.

This is a Chicago Area Runners Association registered race on a flat course through residential streets in downtown Des Plaines. Registration forms are available at all Park District facilities and on the web at www.desplainesparks.org.

The entry fee is $20 prior to June 5 and $30 on or after June 5. Association members pay $18 prior to June 5 and $28 on or after June 5. Runners/walkers can pick up their race packets on from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 6 at Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 East Thacker St., or on race day, prior to 7:40 a.m., at the registration tent. Day of the race registration is from 6:30 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. Free tee shirts will be given to the first 300 registered runners and walkers.

Age groups include: 8 and under; 9-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60 and up. The race is run rain or shine with splits provided at every mile. Awards will be presented for the overall male and female first place, first, second and third place in each age category, oldest finisher, and first male and female residents of Des Plaines.

Illinois State Representative Elaine Nekritz will lead off the race. Water will be available at the start, finish, and on the course. Fruit, bagels, energy bars, energy drinks, and granola bars will also be available after race courtesy of our over 30 2008 Chase sponsors, including this year's 2008 Premier Chase to the Taste Sponsor, Midwest Bank.

Proceeds from the Chase to the Taste 5K run/walk benefit the Des Plaines Park District Scholarship fund.
