Police seize 85 guns at Lake Forest home
More than 80 guns, including a 50-caliber machine gun, were seized from a Lake Forest home on Thursday.
Acting on a confidential tip, police searched the home of Benjamin A. Stevens, 49, who lives at 1991 Telegraph Road, at around 4 p.m. There police found 85 guns, including what appears to be a 50-caliber machine gun, said Stephen Scheller, of the Lake County state's attorney's office.
Police also found thousands of rounds of ammunition, some of which appears to be armor piercing. Both the machine gun and the ammo have been sent to a federal lab, Scheller said.
Also inside the house was Stevens' Firearms Owner Identification card, which was revoked on Dec. 9, 2002, for what the Illinois State Police call "reasons other than criminal."
Stevens was charged with multiple felony counts and for not having a valid Firearms Identification Card. He is due in Lake County bond court today.
