Paxson may meet with Johnson as coaching search continues
Things were quiet Wednesday in the Bulls' coaching search as it appears general manager John Paxson plans to meet with former Dallas coach Avery Johnson before making any move. Sources with the Bulls, however, say no meeting has been confirmed.
The agent for Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said his client had not received an offer from the Bulls or New York Knicks as of Wednesday afternoon. D'Antoni is technically still employed by the Suns, but he was given permission to negotiate a move to the Bulls or Knicks. Both teams met with D'Antoni last weekend in Arizona.
One report suggested Phoenix wants to know by Friday whether D'Antoni is leaving or staying. But since he was given permission to leave, it would seem as though the Suns' top priority would be to move on with a new coach as long as they won't owe D'Antoni any of the $8.5 million remaining on his contract.
There has been speculation that D'Antoni will receive an offer from the Knicks, while others continue to label New York native Mark Jackson the front-runner for that job.
