Health center hosts ribbon cutting
The nonprofit Visiting Nurse Association of Fox Valley, or VNA, will host a public ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon Tuesday to celebrate its new women's health services.
The celebration runs approximately one hour and will be held at the VNA Health Center, 400 N. Highland in Aurora. Tours will be conducted, featuring the new service areas, and refreshments will be served.
"We are delighted to now offer women in our community onsite digital mammography, bone density testing and pharmacy services," said Linnea Windel, VNA President/CEO. "These services are important components of our women's, senior, pediatric and family healthcare programs."
Dr. Damon T. Arnold, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, said, "Since 1999, VNA has been an active participant in our Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) and is a lead agency for IBCCP for Kane and Kendall counties. By offering onsite mammography, VNA further demonstrates its commitment to improving access to life saving screenings for women."
VNA has purchased a new digital mammography system and is the first federally qualified health center in the area to offer this more advanced screening service.
Arnold will be among the special guests participating in the VNA ribbon-cutting ceremony. Joining him will be Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner, VNA board members, and other leaders in the community.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony also serves as the official start to another VNA special event: It's Women's Day…at VNA! That will be held the following day, Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's Women's Day is a free health event for area women, featuring complimentary health services, such as bone density testing, depression screening and prescription medicine interaction evaluations, as well as valuable information provided by VNA doctors, nurses and pharmacists.
VNA provides health care to its patients, many of whom are uninsured and under-insured residents across the Fox Valley.
