Anti-speeding campaign continues

The Arlington Heights Police Department is initiating the second of six enforcement campaigns of a Speed Enforcement Program Grant, utilizing funds from the Illinois Department of Transportation -- Division of Traffic Safety.

The second campaign has begun and will conclude on May 31. Enforcement efforts continue to be conducted at four selected intersections. Selection is based on 2006 Illinois Department of Transportation Crash Statistics pertaining to the village of Arlington Heights.

The intersections and areas of enforcement selected for purposes of the Speed Enforcement Program are as follows:

Algonquin Road at Arlington Heights Road

Palatine Road at Rand Road

Palatine Road at Arlington Heights Road

Northwest Highway at Euclid Avenue

The purpose of the Speed Enforcement Program is to reduce the incidence of speeding-related motor vehicle crashes, and the resulting injuries and fatalities, through highly visible increased enforcement of speed-related laws.

During the first enforcement campaign conducted between April 6 and May 3, 366 citations were issued; 362 citations were for speeding violations and four citations were for other miscellaneous vehicle code violations.

Speed enforcement efforts will be conducted primarily on weekdays during the morning and evening rush-hour periods. The goal of the Arlington Heights Police Department is to make certain that everyone knows that they are at more risk of suffering a serious injury or death if they do not follow the rules of the road.
