Hunt for man who posed as cop in attempted abduction continues
Buffalo Grove police are still searching for a man posing as an officer who tried to sexually assault and kidnap a woman on Saturday.
Todd Kupsak, spokesman for the department, said on Tuesday that police will continue interviews with the woman and a friend who was with her at the time.
Kupsak also provided a few more details about the attack.
Around 5 a.m. on Saturday, a man in a silver, four-door Audi flashed his headlights at the woman's car as she and her friend were driving home.
She pulled over on Thompson Boulevard near Arlington Heights Road, and he told her that he was an undercover police officer who was going to arrest her for improper lane usage.
Kupsak said the man took her wallet and identification, and told her friend to walk away, which she did, and he placed the woman in the backseat of his car.
After a few moments, he pulled over again, took off the handcuffs and put the woman in the front seat of the car.
"At that time, he gave all the personal belongings back to her," Kupsak said.
The woman became suspicious at and ran from the car. The man tackled her and tried to sexually assault her, but he ran off after she started screaming. The victim went to a nearby gas station and called police.
Kupsak said the woman didn't know the man, and police don't believe that he has an indication of her address, even though he took her identification for a short period of time.
Police said the man is about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 to 190 pounds, in his mid- to late-20s and has short, brown spiked hair.
Kupsak said a sketch probably won't be released because there aren't enough identifying factors to do so.
