Elgin home damaged by fire

Fire left a single-family Elgin home uninhabitable Tuesday afternoon.

Elgin firefighters responded to the call for fire in the basement of the house at 774 Hastings at 1:59 p.m., officials said.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
