Gift-wrapped ideas
It's too late to order a Mother's Day gift online (unless you're willing to cough up $20 or more in shipping charges), so here are some gift ideas you can go out and buy today. Or tomorrow. Or on your way to your mom's house Sunday.
• Camp Cosmetics' new fragrance is called "Serenade." Not only is the bottle beautiful, but its sweet smell will appeal to moms of all ages. ($60 for 1.7 ounces, at Camp Cosmetics, 480A N. Main St., Glen Ellyn)
• What mom doesn't want a little peace and quiet? The Apple stores, including those in Deer Park, Oak Brook and Woodfield Mall, just started carrying these new, pink V-MODA's VIBE noise-canceling earphones ($99). They're lightweight, soft and good for workouts or traveling.
• Macy's has a lot of great last-minute gift ideas, including a nice selection of jewelry and perfume. Another good gift is to make your mom an appointment with one of Macy's personal shoppers (the free service is called "Macy's By Appointment) and give her a Macy's gift card to put toward her purchases. See www.macys.com for details.
• The handmade, fairly traded Mothers & Daughters wall art (23 by 23 inches) can be hung indoors or out. It's made from recycled oil drums by Haitian artists. ($89.50 at Andersonville Galleria, 5247 N. Clark St., Chicago or at www.World-Shoppe.com)
• Also fairly traded and eco-friendly: handmade clutch purses ($66) at Greenheart, 746 N. LaSalle, Chicago. The purses are made of raffia and lined with cotton by women in Madagascar.
• Good gifts for active moms can be found at the numerous suburban TJ Maxx stores. Cute golf, tennis or yoga outfits, some with popular designer labels, can be found for less than $40. They also sell a yoga ball for $24.99.
See www.tjmaxx.com for store locations.
