Rozner writes like a true Hawks fan

Eric Willuweit's letter questioning Barry Rozner's credibility left me speechless.

Apparently, one good year, after years of complete ineptness, means no one should question the direction the Chicago Blackhawks franchise is going.

Major strides were made both on and off the ice, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

Going into the most important off-season this franchise has ever faced, there are major questions about talent evaluation. Dale Tallon was groomed by Bob Pulford, who along with the late Bill Wirtz just about killed NHL hockey in this town.

Now that Rocky Wirtz is in charge and has opened up the purse strings, what's to say Tallon signs the right guys? One bad contract could set them back again, and kill all this momentum built up by this past season.

That's Rozner's point in the columns Mr. Willuweit finds so disturbing.

There's plenty of cheerleaders writing about the team (see most of Tim Sassone's writings) already.

Also, Rozner was one of the few writers in this town (other than whatever minor league writer was relegated to the Hawks beat in recent years) who still wrote about the Hawks during the years where hockey was an afterthought in this town.

He consistently has been the voice of reason, in good times and bad, when writing about this team.

From his writings, you can tell he's just like the rest of us tortured fans who just about gave up on the team but were looking for some sign of hope that would give us a reason to cheer again.

His perspective is of the fan who wants the team to win a Cup sometime in the near future, not just make the playoffs with tributes to past stars and Beanie Baby nights to satisfy the "remember when" crowd .
