Kirk still backs water boarding

On March 8, President Bush vetoed Congressional Bill Number HR 2082. On March 11, the House tried to override the veto but failed.

One of the key provisions of the bill was that it "mandates that no person in the custody or within the control of an element of the intelligence community, regardless of that individual's physical location or nationality, shall be subject to any treatment or technique of interrogation not authorized by the U.S. Army Field Manual on Human Intelligence Collector Operations (Sec. 327)."

This provision outlaws water boarding.

Mark Kirk voted once again with the Bush administration against outlawing water boarding.

Despite concerns over the humaneness of water boarding and its effectiveness, Kirk continues to show that he lacks the courage and independence to stand up to the Bush administration.

Military leaders have questioned the effectiveness of water boarding, saying it often results in unreliable confessions.

Republican John McCain, who was a POW during the Vietnam War, has spoken out against water boarding, calling it torture.

By endorsing practices like water boarding, Kirk has helped compromise our country's moral authority.

Unlike Kirk, Dan Seals believes strongly we should listen to our military leaders and outlaw water boarding.

When elected to Congress from the 10th Congressional District, Dan will bring the change we need to our foreign policy by supporting policies that are not only tough, but also smart.
