Six semi-finalists for Hoffman fire chief

Hoffman Estates has trimmed the field to six semi-finalists for chief of the village's fire department. The village received 25 resumes after Fire Chief Kevin Rynders retired in March to take an assistant fire chief post at the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District. He's collecting his Hoffman Estates' pension on top of earning his new salary under state law. Rynders left after 28 years with the department. The pool consists of one internal candidate and five others from surrounding suburban fire departments. Candidates will be whittled down once more later this month and those finalists will be interviewed again by the end of May.
