High school ups security
Police presence has been increased at Buffalo Grove High School all this week after a threat was found written in the boy's bathroom last week. The threat referenced today's date, but Venetia Miles, spokeswoman for Northwest Suburban High School District 214, said the threat was found to be not credible. "They have taken precautionary measures," she said. "There's been an increase in police presence in plain clothes and in uniform." Only two school entrances will be open, she said. A threat was found at Elk Grove High School last week and similar precautions were taken there.
Hoffman chamber leader
Michael Hearn has been named the new executive director of the Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce. Hearn, of Lake Barrington, will succeed Jill Blodgett, the chamber's only director over its 17 years of existence. She'll remain with the chamber in an honorary capacity, and will stay on in the chamber office for at least the rest of the month to assist Hearn with the transition. A five-member search team helped select Hearn, who most recently has been working with the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago.
