Aurora cheerleading coach charged with abusing young teen

A cheerleading coach acquitted of groping an underage girl less than four years ago is now facing five felony counts of criminal sexual assault involving another underage girl, police said.

Bradley S. Abrahams, 28, of 4062 Gabrielle Drive, Aurora, surrendered himself to Naperville police at 2:10 p.m. Monday.

Abrahams is accused of a series of sexual assaults on a then-13-year-old Naperville girl in March of 2006, authorities said.

At the time of the alleged offenses, Abrahams was the girl's cheerleading coach and a co-owner of ICE Athletics Cheer and Dance, 127 Ambassador Drive, Naperville, authorities said.

A parent of the girl reported the assaults to police on July 7, 2007, when the girl was 14 years old, authorities said.

In a separate incident in December 2004, Abrahams was acquitted of misdemeanor battery charges after being accused of touching a 16-year-old in an "insulting manner" on June 15, 2003, inside his Naperville apartment, Daily Herald reports show.

That teen ended up at Abrahams' apartment after accompanying her 17-year-old friend who had met Abrahams through an Internet dating service, the reports said.

The girl testified that Abrahams kissed her and touched her chest underneath her clothes without her consent, and that he knew she was underage because they spoke about her upcoming birthday earlier that night.

Abrahams denied knowing that the girl was 16, but admitted kissing the girl. He denied any further contact, the report said.

In the court ruling, DuPage Associate Judge Peter Dockery said that the teen's testimony was more credible than that of Abrahams, but there wasn't enough evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The girl was unsure of the exact time and date and gave some conflicting accounts of what had happened, Daily Herald reports said.

Abrahams also worked on a part-time basis as an assistant cheerleading coach in the 2001-02 school year at Naperville Central High School, but has not been affiliated with the high school since at least 2004.

Police said Monday's arrest came after an extensive investigation of the sexual abuse allegations. Police said they presented information from their investigation to the DuPage County state's attorney's office, which approved the charges.

A DuPage County judge set bail at $1 million and Abrahams posted $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned June 3 in DuPage court.

Police are asking anyone who may have had similar contract with Abrahams to contact the department's youth investigations section at (630) 305-5919.
