7-footer commits to Northwestern

Northwestern already had one of its best recruiting classes in the fold.

Then Kyle Rowley decided he needed to become a Wildcat sooner as opposed to later.

Rowley, a 7-foot, 280-pound center for Lake Forest Academy, decided to stop being chased by a fleet of top schools seeking him as a Class of 2009 recruit.

The Trinidad and Tobago native switched back to the Class of 2008 over the weekend as he offered his oral commitment to Northwestern.

Rowley, regarded as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, joins Glenbard West's John Shurna, Batavia's Nick Freundt, Detroit's Davide' Curletti and Indiana's Luka Mirkovic in the Wildcats' freshman class.

Northwestern coach Bill Carmody can't discuss Rowley's decision until his letter of intent arrives in the team's office.

When that happens, Carmody might be able to say how Rowley fits into the Wildcats' scholarship picture. Northwestern already had 13 players on scholarship not counting Rowley.
