Fire shuts down, shuts out Revolution
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- John Thorrington and Stephen King scored goals in the second half, and the Chicago Fire beat the New England Revolution 3-0 on Saturday night.
The Fire (4-1-1) took the lead on Chris Rolfe's goal in the 29th minute. Thorrington scored his third goal in the past two matches in the 50th minute, with a drive to the lower right corner past New England goalie Matt Reis. King, who came on in the second half, scored in the 76th minute.
New England (3-3-1) has yet to score in two matches against the Fire this season, losing 4-0 at Toyota Park on April 3.
Jon Busch, who leads the MLS with a 0.60 goals-against average, earned his third shutout of the season with 6 saves.
The Fire has not allowed more than 1 goal in any of its matches this season.
New England midfielder Mauricio Castro generated three corner kicks and had the Revolution's two best scoring chances, a 12-yarder from the right side in the 31st minute and a low drive from atop the penalty box in the 43rd.
The Revolution has scored just 2 goals in its last four matches.
