Goslin: My votes were with Palatine
I was surprised to read in the Daily Herald Thursday Mayor Rita Mullins questioning my whereabouts from the April 30 Palatine council meeting, since I had told her personally, prior to President Stroger's pulling out, that I would be out of the state and unable to attend.
As I told her then, I am happy to attend any meetings.
With respect to representing Palatine, I believe I did that well when I voted against the 1 percent sales tax increase.
Additionally, I along with other reform-minded commissioners, defeated most proposals for new revenue:
• Increase sales tax by 2 percent to 2.75 percent.
• Institute new tax on personal, business and mobile phones.
• Increase natural gas tax ordinance.
• Increase electricity tax.
• Extend tobacco tax to all tobacco products.
• Increase gas tax.
• Increase jet fuel tax.
• Increase parking tax.
• Increase wheel tax.
• Increase use tax.
• Increase hotel/motel accommodation tax.
• Increase consumption of alcoholic beverages tax.
When Palatine needed me to vote against tax increases, I - and my vote - was there. Not once but 13 times.
