Celebs to golf in St. Charles to benefit Special Olympics
Amateur golfers can team up with professional athletes and regional celebrities in St. Charles this summer to raise money for Special Olympics.
The 21st annual Midwest Golf Celebrity Pro-Am will be June 16 at Royal Fox Country Club, 4405 Royal and Ancient Drive. Among the retired professional athletes scheduled to participate are Jim Morrissey of the Chicago Bears, Jerry Korab of the Blackhawks, Paul Popovich of the Cubs and Eric Soderholm of the White Sox.
Organizer Sandy Hutchins said the fundraiser typically generates approximately $65,000 for Special Olympics programs in DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties.
"We've had pretty good success with the format," she said. "We've been increasing it (the fundraising goal) a little each year."
The scramble begins at 10:30 a.m. and concludes with cocktails, dinner and a charity auction that night. In all, there will be 27 teams, each assigned a celebrity captain, Hutchins said.
Sponsorships range in price from $425 for one participant to $7,000 for 12. Sponsors also receive various amounts of free golf-related merchandise and other perks, depending on the size of their contributions.
