Another dog stolen in Arlington Heights

For the second time in less than a week, a dog has been stolen in Arlington Heights.

A woman stole a golden retriever puppy Tuesday from a pet store when the store's employee turned her back for mere seconds, said Amanda Longtin, manager of Happiness is Pets at Arlington Heights and Golf roads.

"It's so disturbing that people resort to doing that," Longtin said. "Our employee just turned around for a second, and she jetted out the door."

A man was waiting outside in the getaway car, she added.

The dog is valued about $800, Longtin said.

The woman visited the store and played with the dog Monday and again Tuesday morning before returning later Tuesday to steal the dog, Longtin said.

The woman is described as about 20 years old with blond hair and a medium build. She rode away in a dark two-door vehicle similar to a Honda Accord or an Acura. A 20-year-old man with blond hair wearing a baseball cap was driving the car, according to police.

Police are still looking for the person who stole a dog April 24 from a locked car in Arlington Heights. A miniature pinscher worth $1,000 was stolen from a Chevy Caprice parked on the 900 block of West Dundee Road. The dog was taken from the locked vehicle between 11:20 and 11:50 p.m.

The pinscher, a 4-year-old female, was described as black with brown front paws, gray/white stripes on her hind legs and a white spot on its chest. Her nails are painted black, and she was wearing a spiked black leather collar.

Anyone having information about either crime should call (847) 368-5300.
