Upgraded Kane sheriff's Web site offers more features

The Kane County Sheriff's Department has a new Web site -- one Sheriff Pat Perez said will be more useful to different kinds of visitors.

"It is something that we are really excited about," Perez said.

The Web site will have more information on how to contact the appropriate people in various divisions. The sheriff hopes users will be able to find answers to questions without having to call his office and wait for an officer to get back to them. For example, the new Web site outlines procedures for evicting a tenant, how to post bond for someone in the jail, and when you should and shouldn't call 911.

For educational entertainment value, the site includes videos of the special weapons and tactics team competing in a national contest, as well as baseball card-style photos of the department's police dogs.

There's detailed employment information for job-seekers, and a calendar of special events, such as fundraising charity car shows and the like.

Under the crime analysis button, you can see how many of what kinds of crimes have happened in the previous 365 days in the various areas the sheriff's department patrols. There remains a place to sign up to be notified when a sex offender moves into your neighborhood.

The Web site is available at www.kanesheriff.com.
