'Swan Lake' to be highlight of dance

The Terpsichore Dance Company will put on its annual "Collection of Dance" this weekend.

This year's concert features selections from "Swan Lake," along with a variety of original pieces from guest choreographers.

The concert will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Libertyville High School Auditorium, 708 W. Park Ave., Libertyville.

"Swan Lake" features guest artists Isabele Melo Elefson, formerly of the Sao Paolo Ballet; Erin Fitzpatrick and Holly Pace.

Other performers include Autumn Eckman of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, who will present "Sea Level," a contemporary piece set to music by Colin Hay.

Valerie Gonzalez has set a piece to Rufus Wainwright's version of "Angus Dei" about a person in a fast-paced environment trying to find her place in society.

Nancy Gattone and Emily Winkler both utilize drum music of the Japanese drum group Kodo. Emily Foust's tap piece uses pedestrian movement to portray taking a trip through music and movement.

Rob Lane's piece portraying a high school classroom in the 1970s and the cliques within the group is set to the music of "Supertramp" and incorporates contemporary ballet and classical pointe.

Terpsichore Dance Company is a performing group trained and housed at the Dance Academy of Libertyville. It is comprised of a select group of young dancers from the Lake County area.

Ticket prices are $12. Group rates are available. To purchase tickets or for more information, call (847) 247-1327 or visit www.danceacademyoflibertyville.com.
