Here's your chance to have say in Geneva cultural events

Did you like "Music in the Alleys" or "Shakespeare in the Park" last year?

If you think Geneva needs more cultural activities -- or if you have a thought about the events it's had -- Saturday is the time to speak.

The Cultural Arts Commission is having its first town meeting at 9 a.m. in the training room at the public works building, 1800 South St.

"We want to make it more of a community organization," Chairman Tim Vetang said. The commission was formed two years ago after a community survey indicated people wanted more cultural activities in Geneva.

It has organized a film festival, brought back "Shakespeare in the Park" and tried to have a snowsculpting contest.

"The main thing is to have events the citizens would like to see," Vetang said.

But to add events, the commission needs more volunteers. Up to now, it's mostly been the nine commissioners working at any of the events, he said.

If you can't attend Saturday's meeting, but are interested in working with the commission, e-mail Vetang at ta2v@earthlink.net.
