Leyden High Schools notes
Art exhibit: The annual East Leyden Art Exhibit will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today and Thursday in the Little Theater, East Leyden High School, 3400 Rose Street in Franklin Park. There will be an artists' reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 1. The show is free, and the public is invited to attend.
The exhibit will feature drawings, paintings, prints, graphic design pieces, pottery, photographs, and sculpture created by East Leyden art students as well as art students from East Leyden's partner schools.
Seussical appearance: Members of the cast of District 212 "Seussical: The Musical" will make a special appearance at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Franklin Park Public Library District, 10311 Grand Ave., Franklin Park. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
Based on the characters and stories of Dr. Seuss, the musical includes elements from several Dr. Seuss books and features many favorite characters such as the Cat in the Hat, JOJO, and Horton the elephant.
Cast members, composed of students from both Leyden campuses, will perform excerpts from the musical; sign autographs and interact with the audience. For details, call the library at (847) 455-6016.
"Seussical: The Musical" will make its debut at Leyden at 7 p.m. May 9, and 10; at 4 p.m. May 16 and 7 p.m. May 17, in the auditorium at East Leyden High School, 3400 N. Rose St., Franklin Park. Admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults. The Card Club program offers in-district senior adults free admission to most activities. For more information, call (847) 451-3090.
Learn to Swim: District 212 is offering its Learn to Swim program for children 3 to 13 years of age. The course will include water orientation, safety skills, and advanced stroke techniques.
Lessons will be held Monday through Thursday in three, two-week sessions. Session I will be held June 23 - July 3; Session II will be held July 7 - July 17; and Session III will be held July 21 - July 31. Each session is 35 minutes in duration. Start times are 9:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 11 a.m., and 11:45 a.m.
Classes will be held at West Leyden High School, 1000 N. Wolf Road, Northlake. The cost is $40 per session for District 212 residents, and $45 per session for out-of -district residents.
