Briefs: Police warn of water scam

Elgin police are warning resident to be on the look out for a scam in which at least two people posing as city of Elgin employees ask to come inside a residence to check the water pressure and later rob the homeowners while they are distracted. In two instances, the men said that the homeowner paid too much on the last water bill and asked if they had change for $100. Police say city crews will never arrive at a home without calling first. Also, the employee will always wear a uniform --light blue shirt and dark pants -- carry a city of Elgin ID and drive a city vehicle. To report any suspicious activity, call (847)289-2700 or dial 911.
