Buried treasure lies under outhouses

The Dundee Township Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday at the museum, 426 Highland Ave., West Dundee.

After a brief meeting, a special program titled "Digging Up Gramma's Privy," will be presented by guest speaker Craig Pfannkuche. Pfannkuche is a well-known historical and genealogical researcher as well as an amateur archaeologist.

Believe it or not there are treasures to be found in the old "two holer" that was a common site in the Midwest countryside for countless decades.

A walk down the path was not just out of necessity. The outhouse also was a place to "dump" broken bits of household objects and no longer needed useless items. Find out what some of those treasures might be.

The public is invited to attend. There is no fee. Donations are appreciated. For information, call the museum at (847) 428-6996.
