Hanover Park man sentenced to 15 years for sex abuse
A Hanover Park man on Monday received 15 years for sexually abusing two young girls over a five-year period.
Egan Barranca, 36, of the 1700 block of Evergreen Ave., pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault, which occurred between 2000 and 2005. Authorities said the abuse included forcing one of the girls to view pornographic videos and perform sex acts.
Barranca was arrested by Hanover Park police after the victims' mother reported hearing the older girl, who is now in her mid-teens, telling a friend of the abuse, officials have said.
The mother had hidden under a bed unbeknownst to Barranca and overheard him telling the girl that she better take back what she said and that if she told anyone about the abuse, he would hurt her mother, prosecutors said.
Barranca originally was indicted on 65 felony charges last October.
