Car burglary suspects caught napping with loot

Three men are facing felony vehicle burglary charges after they were found sleeping in a car amid a bounty of ill-gotten electronic devices, authorities said Monday.

Aurora police nabbed the suspects Sunday morning after responding to a suspicious vehicle call in the 1000 block of Front Street on the city's east side.

Inside the car, police not only found three sleeping men, but GPS devices, cell phones and a laptop computer recently reported stolen from four locations in Naperville.

Reginald Jackson, 17, of Chicago; Gregory A Balano, 20, of Aurora; and Fernando Hernandez, 18, of Aurora; each have been charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of burglary to a motor vehicle. They were arraigned Monday in Will County.

All three still were in jail Monday evening. Jackson and Hernandez were being held in lieu of $25,000 bonds and Balano, who is currently on probation, was being held on a $75,000 bond.

In all, six GPS units were recovered, Naperville police said. Four of the units have been returned to their owners, but two remain unclaimed.

Vehicles with GPS equipment appear to have been targeted and the cell phones and laptop were a "bonus," Naperville police Cmdr. Dave Hoffman said.

Hoffman said the case remains under investigation and more charges may be filed. Police are encouraging anyone who may have had a GPS device stolen recently and not reported the crime to do so.

Investigators are checking with neighboring municipalities as well to locate the unclaimed GPS devices' owners.
