Bring your kite to fly at Barrington Rotary Club's annual family event
Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club's annual Community Kite Fly is set from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Ron Beese Park, just off of Cornell Avenue on Barrington's south end.
The spring event draws hundreds of participants from McHenry, Lake, Cook and Kane counties to join in the family-friendly festivities.
Spectators also stop by each year to watch as the skies fill with clouds of colorful, dancing kites.
Admission is free and complimentary kites are available on a first-come, first-served basis to children who arrive without their own.
The club's stock of quality kites is provided, courtesy of JAKKS Pacific, licensed manufacturer of Dora the Explorer, Blues' Clues and SpongeBob Squarepants children's toys.
"As far as community events go, the annual kite fly is a favorite for our members," said Rotary Club president Mike Martinez. "It's intended for families and kids -- but believe me, it brings out the kid in all of us -- it's just plain fun."
In the event of inclement weather, the rain date is Sunday. Snacks and refreshments are available.
