Briefs: Batavia scholarship offers
The Batavia Bulldogs Sports Boosters will award four $1,000 scholarships to seniors at Batavia High School this year. To be eligible, students have to have participated in sports for three years, including their senior year, and have a 3.0 grade-point average. Applications can be picked up at the high school guidance office or athletic office and have to be returned by Wednesday.
Business expo Wednesday
The 15th Annual Rolling Down the River Business-to-Business Expo is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Pheasant Run Mega Center, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles. The event includes more than 200 exhibitors from across the region. Admission is free, although visitors are asked to present a business card. Deal on Blackberry Farm
Blackberry Farm history park season passes are on sale until Thursday at preseason rates. Individual season passes are $20 for residents of all ages and $25 for nonresidents. After Thursday, the fees go up $5 each. Resident family season pass rates are $85 for four members of the same household. Non-resident season pass rates are $100. Each additional member of the same household is $15 for residents and $20 for nonresidents. Children younger than 2 are admitted without charge. Fox Valley Park District residents can purchase passes online at www.foxvalleyparkdistrict.org or in person at any district community center.
National Day of Prayer:
The National Day of Prayer will be observed from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the old Kane County Courthouse at 100 S. Third St., Geneva. The Rev. Theresa Forkins-Phillips will officiate with other leaders of faith communities. Prayer will be offered for government leaders, the military, business, schools, churches, families and the homeless. This year's theme is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield." Congress established the National Day of Prayer in 1952. Call (630) 377-5355.
Brick paver fundraiser
The Coultrap Elementary School PTO is selling commemorative brick pavers to be placed in the entrance of the new Williamsburg Elementary School in Geneva, which will replace Coultrap this fall. They can be engraved with personalized messages and cost $50 or $100. Orders are due Friday. Call Christine Rodgers at (630) 845-8501.
Music Matters party
The Music Matters music school, at 222 E. Wilson St. in Batavia, will hold its second annual parade party to coincide with the Loyalty Day parade at 1 p.m. Sunday. Food drive needs help
Volunteers are needed to help collect, sort and pack food items in St. Charles May 10 for the annual Letter Carrier Food Drive. Volunteers can work two-hour shifts or the entire afternoon at the Salvation Army's Joe K. Anderson Community Center, 1710 S. Seventh Ave., or at the post office on West Main Street.
