American food cookbook: Food historian, Penelope Bingham has collected more than 2,000 cookbooks and will present how traditional American recipes have been affected by immigration at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Al Hattendorf Center, 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd. This program is recommended for ages 14 and older. Registration recommended. For details, call (847) 690-1440.
Early Bird Rates: Rainbow Falls Waterpark will open May 24. Residents of Elk Grove Village may take advantage of a discounted early bird rate. Rainbow Falls passes are good for summer 2008 from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Purchase your pass by Wednesday and receive the 2007 rate. Passes are sold at the Pavilion 1000 Wellington Ave., Elk Grove Village. Everyone must provide proof of residency at time of purchase. For an additional fee a pass holder may add on the Pavilion Aquatic Center pass for the summer. Rates for Rainbow Falls are as follows.
Rainbow Falls Resident Rates with Early Bird Discount: Seniors, 65 and older, $60; Individual, $100; Family of 2, $125; Family of 3, $140; Family of 4, $155; Family of 5 or more $170.
Rainbow Falls Resident Rates starting May 1: Seniors, 65 and older, $65; Individual, $110; Family of 2, $140; Family of 3, $160; Family of 4, $180; Family of 5 or more, $200.

Rummage Sale: The bi-annual rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Sheila Ray Adult Center, 225. E. Elk Grove Blvd. Items include, house wares, clothing, appliances and knick-knacks. Items for donation are being accepted starting April 28. Call (847) 364-7224
Family Fun Fitness Challenge Series: The Elk Grove Park District is introducing a challenge series for the whole family. The series challenges are Treasure Hunt from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Pirates' Cove; Olympic Games from 7 to 9 p.m. May 9, in the Pavilion Gym and Bike Event from 1 to 4 p.m. May 17, in Busse Woods. Pre-registration is required for all events. Household must have at least one person 18 years of age or older. If you and your family register for all four events, your family's last challenge series is free. Call (847) 437-9494.
Spring Plant Celebration: The plant sale will be from noon to 4 p.m. May 10 at the Farmhouse Museum Campus, 399 Biesterfield Road. Plants include annuals, perennials, and heirloom vegetables. There is a coloring contest with three age groups and prizes for the best artists; spring crafts and activities and local artists capturing the beauty of springtime on canvas. There will also be tours of the Farmhouse museum. Free admission. Participation in craft activities will cost $4. Cost for Historical Society Members is $2. Call Sandy Denninger at (847) 690-1440.
Pirate's Cove: The Pirate's Cove Children's Theme Park, 901 Leicester Road, is a hands on amusement park for children ages 2 to 9. Pirate's Cove is $8 per child and adults are always free. Public hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The park is closed Sundays. This year will feature a special event every Friday.
