Celebrate comics Saturday at libraries
The Messenger Public Library of North Aurora invites families to the annual Comicon Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the library's Meeting Room, 113 Oak St., North Aurora. No registration is required.
Special guests Bill and Linda Reinhold will share their experiences as comic book artists and answer audience questions about comic book creation.
This year the library also is introducing a comic book and graphic novel swap.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their gently used comic books and graphic novels to trade.
Other activities include "Create Your Own Superhero" and "Create Your Own Flipbook."
For information, call the Messenger Public Library Youth Services Department at (630) 896-0240, ext. 2310.
Meanwhile, Saturday is Free Comic Book Day at the Geneva Public Library, 127 James St.
Free comics will be handed out while supplies last at the program desk in Youth Services and the readers' advisory desk in Adult Services.
Kids can make their own superhero mask from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Meeting Room.
Matt Anderson and Brian Mead will be in the Adult Fiction room from noon to 2 p.m. signing their "White Picket Fences" story, which will be featured in Ape Entertainment's Free Comic Book Day offering. And stop by and get a free copy signed and pick up a free sketch from artist Matt Jordan. The critically acclaimed "White Picket Fences" miniseries and recently released double feature will be raffled.
Free Comic Book Day is sponsored by Graham Crackers Comic Book Store and the Geneva Public Library.
