Illinois hangs posters on human trafficking

The Illinois Department of Human Services joined more than 100 partners in marking the Illinois Rescue and Restore Human Trafficking Outreach Day.

The event held Saturday was designed to raise awareness about human trafficking and help rescue victims in Illinois.

The U.S. government estimates that more than 14,000 people are trafficked into the country annually to work in labor and sex trades.

Grace Hou -- the assistant secretary of the Illinois Department of Human Services -- joined volunteers who hung posters advertising the national human trafficking hotline. That number is 888-373-7888.

The posters were produced in various languages including Russian, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese. They were hung at rest stops, gas stations, health clinics and laundromats, among other spots.
