Doctor, author to discuss visits to Israel

Dr. Alice Rothchild, an obstetrician-gynecologist living in Boston who, since 1997, has focused much of her energy on understanding the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, will be in Barrington and Chicago to discuss her experiences and sign copies of her recent book, "Broken Promises, Broken Dreams."

She will appear at Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Barrington at 7:30 p.m. May 5, and at the headquarters of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) at noon May 6.

Rothchild is co-chair of the Boston chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace. She also is a frequent traveler to the West Bank and Israel with the Boston JVP chapter's Health and Human Services Project, which sets up and operates mobile health clinics in the West Bank to provide needed medical services.

Her book discusses her experiences in Israel and the West Bank from the point of view of an American Jew and her reflections on those experiences.

Royalties from book sales are donated to JVP in Boston.

Lutheran Church of the Atonement is at 909 E. Main St., Lake Cook Road, between North Ela Road and Northwest Highway, (847) 381-0243.
