Fine arts basis of cultured society

"Art is to me the glorification of the human spirit, and as such it is the cultural documentation of the time in which it is produced."

-- Hans Hoffman

I have always told my students that a truly educated person must know something about the fine arts. They are the basis of a cultured society.

Sports can provide pleasure whether you partake in that sport or you are a spectator. Art, music and drama can speak to a person's soul. They can help us to understand the thoughts and feelings of other cultures and societies, as well as their histories.

The fine arts can build bridges with people of other countries. Lessons in the fine arts will provide our students with joy now as well as the rest of their lives.

The next time you go to a play, sports event, musical concert or an art exhibit, ask yourself, is this the curricula we want to cut out of our children's lives?
