• The Naperville League of Women Voters awarded the Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation its Rosemary Martin Democracy in Action Award at a recent State of the Community Dinner. The confederation was nominated for its ongoing commitment to involve Naperville residents in local government and create opportunities for education on public issues important to the quality of their lives. Chuck Schlabach, confederation president, accepted the award on behalf of the homeowners association.
• Tony Manata of the Hyatt Lodge at McDonald's campus in Oak Brook was honored by the South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation for the lodge's contributions to the agency, which serves people with disabilities. The Hyatt Lodge has made its facility available to SEASPAR participants in learn to swim programs. Since 2005, 123 have participated in the programs.
• Vito Cavallo of Naperville recently was honored as the 2008 Man of the Year at the Chicagoland Italian American Charitable Organization. Cavallo is a three-term president of CIACO and has served as an officer since joining the group in 1995. He also is president of Imperial Service Systems, Inc., a cleaning contractor established in 1973.
• Bill Garlough of My Chef Catering in Naperville recently was elected to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce board of directors. The U.S. Chamber is the world's largest business federation, representing more than 3 million businesses. Garlough first was recognized by the U.S. Chamber when My Chef Catering was named the national U.S. Chamber Small Business of the Year for 2007.
