Elmhurst police hunting for bank robber

Elmhurst police and the FBI are searching for a gunman who robbed the Suburban Bank and Trust Friday morning at 150 E. Butterfield Road and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Special Agent and FBI spokesman Ross Rice said the man entered the bank about 10:30 a.m. with a semiautomatic handgun and ordered all the employees and customers to the floor. He then vaulted over the counter and removed money from several teller drawers before fleeing on foot.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as 25 to 30 years old and about 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was wearing a black ski mask, a black jacket with the hood pulled around his face, dark jeans and light-colored gym shoes.

Elmhurst police said the man arrived at the bank in a maroon Toyota that was reported stolen earlier in the day and that he left at the scene.

Witnesses said they saw a man matching the gunman's description get into a dark-colored older model compact car driven by another man and then leave the area.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the FBI at (312) 421-6700 or Elmhurst police at (630) 530-3079.
