Bond set for accused mom
A teenage mother accused of drowning her baby is being held in lieu of $600,000 bond. Nineteen-year-old Rozlynn Rodgers is charged with first-degree murder in the April 4 death of her daughter. Officials say Rodgers told authorities she drowned the child because she no longer wanted to be a mother. During a bond hearing Wednesday before Cook County Circuit Judge Laura Sullivan, Assistant State's Attorney Mary Anna Planey said Rodgers told police she didn't want to be a mom anymore because she couldn't go to parties if she had to take care of the baby. Planey said Rodgers placed the baby in a full bathtub and watched as the child slid under the water. Another person in the home called authorities. An autopsy determined the child suffered cardiac arrest and her lungs were saturated with water.
