Wolves' loss evens series at 2-2
MILWAUKEE -- The Chicago Wolves' offense fell silent at the hands of Milwaukee Admirals goaltender Pekka Rinne, who stopped 37 shots on the way to a 2-0 victory in Game 4 of the AHL's West Division semifinal series at the Bradley Center on Wednesday night. The series is tied at 2-2.
Despite outgunning Milwaukee by 20 shots -- including a 16-6 margin in the third period -- the Wolves' offense failed ignite. They had not been shut out in the playoffs since Game 1 of the 2005 Calder Cup Finals in 2005.
"I thought both goalies played very well," Wolves coach John Anderson said. "Obviously, Pekka was outstanding, but its not like the 2 shots that beat Ondrej (Pavelec) weren't tough. The good news is we can get right back at it tomorrow and take another crack."
The teams battled through a scoreless 45:15 before Admirals center Rich Peverley scored at 5:45 of the third period.
Left wing Antti Pihlstrom sewed up the win for the Admirals when he stripped a Wolves defenseman of the puck along the boards and jumped out on a breakaway, scoring over Pavelec's shoulder with 1:45 remaining in the game.
The Wolves return to the Allstate Arena at 7 p.m. today for Game 5, and Game 6 will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bradley Center.
