Police say man abducted children, took them to Mexico
Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man suspected of abducting three Chicago children after their mother was found dead with a plastic bag over her head.
Chicago Police Commander Joe Salemme says 32-year-old Benito Casanova was sighted in Arkansas at a convenience store. He is now believed to be in Mexico.
The Arkansas store's surveillance camera captured images of Casanova and the children. The children appeared fine.
Salemme wouldn't say Thursday why police think Casanova's left the country.
He says the arrest warrant is for the children's abduction, not for their mother's murder.
Family members found Sofia Garcia's body Monday in her northwest side apartment.
